New Asus Z490 Plus TUF gaming motherboard.

Everything built, was working. Went to do a BIOS update as on their site there were two new versions since the board shipped.

It applied successfully, SHOWS the UEFI bios as it boots, but as soon as it gets past that, it just goes blank. Signal is being sent the the LCD, its not going into standby, but i cannot for love nor money, get it going again.

Here's what i've tried.

Reverting the BIOS back to the same version the board shipped with.

Pulling the CMOS battery and power cord out for a good few mins.

Tried resetting the default values in the BIOS.

Tried removing the GPU and seeing if i could get it to boot off the onboard GPU (it didn't even give a signal)

Removed one stick of DDR4 in the hope that it would trigger the amount of RAM has changed in the BIOS. it didn't.

I'm really stuck on what to do, this is my third mobo. First an Asrock, wouldn't post saying RAM, my 2nd mobo which was an MSI bricked itself (no power, no fans nothing) after the bios update

This one, i should have left alone. But for some reason, even tho i wasn't having a problem, i still went ahead and updated the bios. Now im left with this non-starting machine.

It won't even let me boot to the Windows ISO image. So i think its somehow disabled my GPU getting past the BIOS.. but lets me go into the bios ???? i'm so done with this upgrade.

Any idea's appreciated. Otherwise, i'm going to just put my old mobo back in there, install MACRIUM and restore my old Windows image, i thankfully made, to get me back to where i was before all this crap started.

Not sure what Asus are playing at on a board of that spec today when all my ROG Mobos for God knows how long have had 2 Bioses (at least Z68 but probably earlier), just press little button on Mobo to go between 1 and 2 or from inside Bios GUI.

Not got 2nd Bios?

Was mainly a Gigabyte and ASRock thing . But now Gigabyte starting to use it only for Aorus brand :(

Can send in RMA, if under 30 days should get looked at quick as it's not fit for purpose .
Gigabyte boards have small Error LED icons on their board to display if it's mobo/ram/CPU/GPU error.

I see the Asus TUF doesn't have EZ LED to report any code errors

The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 utility is an auto recovery tool that allows you to restore the BIOS file when it fails or gets corrupted during the updating process. You can restore a corrupted BIOS file using the motherboard support DVD or a USB flash drive that contains the BIOS file. The BIOS file in the motherboard support DVD may be older than the BIOS file published on the ASUS official website. If you want to use the newer BIOS file, download the file at https://www.asus.com/support/ and save it to a USB flash drive.Recovering the BIOSTo recover the BIOS:1. Turn on the system.2. Insert the motherboard support DVD to the optical drive, or the USB flash drive containing the BIOS file to the USB port.3. The utility automatically checks the devices for the BIOS file. When found, the utility reads the BIOS file and enters ASUS EZ Flash 3 automatically.4. The system requires you to enter BIOS Setup to recover the BIOS setting. To ensure system compatibility and stability, we recommend that you press <F5> to load default BIOS values.

The thing is the BIOS screen loads fine, which makes matters more confusing. Its after the bios screen completes that nothing happens. Not on the onboard GPU or my 1080ti. Tried different screens, different ports (HDMI and Display Port) on both the onboard and 1080ti It won't even display a windows recovery or installation media video display, again using either onboard gpu or 1080ti. Being that i am able to access the UEFI bios, i've tried resetting to default, flashing to 3 different versions of BIOS off their site and all exhibit the same issue. Loads the UEFI fine, just as soon as that goes away there's nothing i can get to display. All of which worked fine, right up until initially flashed the BIOS. So the hardware is working. My 1080ti is working great in a different build. So cable, screen and GPU are fine.

I've really not been having much luck with updating BIOS's recently. My last MSI board that this Asus replaced literally bricked. That was as if something fried. No power, nothing. Again the case switch and psu are fine, cos they're working on again my old mobo. I'm going to be very nervous updating any new bios's from here onwards, given the string of back luck. I'd of probably been fine had i left it alone.

What happens if you leave it for 10 mins or so?

TBH i've put all my old hardware back in and i'm just going to RMA this mobo... I probably left it for a good 30mins last night while trying to research a resolution and it did bugger all.

I miss the old days when Bios chips were socketed
Good luck with the RMA.Please keep us posted when you get your replacement :)

I'm beginning to wonder if i had a bad flash drive. Too many coincidences to be just bad luck. Something else had to of been in play. Two mobo's working, then i flash them, and then they die. This particular Asus replaced an MSI that got completely bricked, when i did that BIOS update. I have a new MSI Z490 Tomahawk arriving later today. One things for sure. i WONT be updating the BIOS just because ! I've also taken that flash drive, that i went on to use for my macrium recovery USB and that's when it was giving me some problems. So i pitched it to get it out of circulation, just in case.

The good news for me is that i am able to to narrow down where the issue is thanks to having other hardware. So like when my first MSI bricked, as in wouldn't power up or anything, i could test my PSU and case on other hardware, to say to myself ok yeah this mobo is dead. Same with the Asus. It could have been my 1080ti deciding to crap out. Or a gsync issue after the bios update, but nope, had different screens including a spare 60hz, different cables and a different GPU. Again the only thing that wasn't playing ball was the mobo (after the BIOS update)
