NDS doesn't specialise in hacking. They create a satellite encryption system, they have plenty of competitors and OnDigital's / Canal's encryption system was one of them.
Any company that deals in this sort of technology will have highly technical people running it. People that are for all intents and purposes "hackers" anyway.
It's not unreasonable to suggest that NDS cracks its rivals systems. It's entirely normal for competitors to test each others products to destruction. It's just another form of R&D.
What is more important is whether they used the cracked code as a way to bring down a competitor.
