Did I buy the wrong sub?

I have Monitor Audio BX5 fronts, BX center and BXFX rears. They run of a Denon AVR-X2000. I use a XLS200-DF sub as I'd read good things about it.

Trouble is, I can hardly notice the difference between the sub running and it not running. The amp was set up using Denon's Audyssey thing, and I have the volume on the sub turned to max but there's hardly any rumbling coming from it at all. If I put my hand underneath I can feel the air moving, but most of the bass I feel coming from the BX5 themselves? Did I get the wrong sub for the speakers, or is it a case of my room being too big or an incorrect setup?

The Audyssey setup has set your fronts to full range and assumed you will only need your sub for .1 DTS tracks etc. Use the manual setup and set a HPF / LPF at 80Hz or similar.

I mainly listen to indie/rock, and I think I prefer the sound of just the two fronts when the volume is cranked right up, but when just normal listening the sub adds a little to the bassy parts that the speakers can't.

Thanks for the info! I think I will buy the BX center and BXFX rears first then before I worry about the sub as I'm guessing I will get more out of the surround sound then more base....

If it were me, I would buy the sub first. A center next, then lastly the rears.

Oh ok why is that?

I'm just going on what S2KIP did and what he said about preferring the sound without the sub at higher volumes...I'm not really a bass head but I think for films it could be good...

I'm always worried that the bass will be overpowering....also the Sub is pretty expensive...

I bought my sub before my centre and regret it. Imo if you have half decent sized fronts then go with a centre first if its used for movies/tv a lot.
