Did I do well?!?!

Most of the 4k monitors in my price range were 30hz. There was one that apparently did 60hz but you had to run displayport.

Nice to see people vouching for OCUK though lol.

I think almost all the 4k monitors at the £400 price are 60hz via DP which is correct as none of them have HDMI2.0 fitted. (Veiwsonic and dell, low low end and only 30hz irrespective)

Bgrade = ignore the description, 90 days.

What you've managed to get is a lower spec monitor, for the same price with the same 'low' refresh, that's pretty much as close as a bad job as you could have got.

Grats.

It says 60hz.

I didn't want 4k I wanted 1600p for a reason. I have around 300 emulations I have coded that were designed to run on a 1600x1200 screen. So, naturally, if this monitor has a height of 1600p then it's perfect. 4k would have rendered them too small to read properly.

From what I've managed to garner this is a re-shelled Apple Cinema display with an LG screen so it will do for me.

Right, we're supposed to infer that from your first post?
The same one where and i quote

Pretty clear you were going to get 4k, where you were put off because 60hz was lame. Nothing to do with emulations...? The same refresh on your new one that's coming.

OK let me clarify. I looked at 4k monitors but didn't really want one. Better?

My price limit was £400. IIRC, aside from a B grade there were no 60hz 4k monitors under that price any way.

I think it's fair to say Andy, you have not got the verification you were looking for from this thread. However good luck with that b grade if you went ahead and bought it, please let us know how you got on. It would be interesting to see if peoples fears were in fact validated.

Verification is a very odd word. What I was hoping for was people that either own this monitor or have owned it to let me know what the deal is and what to look out for.

You know? helpful posts. Not people telling me how crap OCUK is to buy from. If the monitor is duff it goes back, it's as simple as that. I trust OCUK not to send me a broken monitor if that's what people are implying here? maybe they have had bad experiences in the past? who knows ?

The screen you've linked is 2560x1600, which doesn't match your emulations anyway.

Oh crap you're joking? forgive me for not being able to count !

Of course what I would prefer is something that can fit the front ends onto the screen res (unlike 1080p without rotating it) that leaves less pixels top and bottom instead of being more like half the size. Hence what I posted about being able to read all of the features and details. But never mind.

Oh BTW. I would also be pushing my hardware to the limit running 4k and achieving low 20s mins and high 30s highs. It's much more sensible to go for something in between and be able to meet 60 fps with Vsync on than basically playing all of your games around 30 fps.

If a monitor was returned as faulty then surely it wouldn't be resold? Surely the seller would refund and then sort it out with the manufacturer?

I know there's a risk involved. However, for the price I couldn't find anything suitable really.

I don't want to game at 4k because of the limitations. No dual GPU set up on earth could provide a solid 60 FPS in gaming.

There aren't many popular choices around right now. It seems to be ROG Swift @ £600 or more and even that isn't 4k.

When I bought my Titan rig I bought the monitor I have now which is 1080p 27" and it was £180. It was only a stand in.

I negated to mention that I already have a 4k screen. 65". However I don't want to hog the main TV which I would end up doing.

3 months to me has been more than long enough with hardware to find out if something is going to work.

Oh, also.. The Hazro is also supposed to be very good for response in gaming, unlike a lot of 4k screens I've been looking at.

Then there's the fact it's 30 inch. Once you get to that size things get expensive fast.

Greg (Gregster) bought a 4k monitor and only had it for two months before swapping out for a Swift iirc. That's not exactly saying much for 4k and he runs three Titans.

IMO PC gaming is still not ready for 4k. Maybe with Titan 2 or 680ti? Sure. But right now I do not want to be gaming at or around 30-40fps because IMO that completely flies in the face of what PC gaming is all about.

Greg also said that with his 27" running 4k res everything was tiny.

Hey Gibbo. Next time you sell some one a monitor it may be a good idea to check it has a stand with it.

Have contacted CS.

It does say in the description that some accessories may be missing :D

Yeah but without a stand it's not functional.

I must say I'm not very happy right now. First of all I sent two tickets and two hours later nothing so I phoned. I was told they had to ask in the sales and shipping department and some one would call me back in five minutes when they had found out if they have the stand.

No call back.

So then I realised I Had an old Dell with a VESA stand on it that would work. Set the monitor up, big greenish yellow line going all the way from top to bottom.

I tell you what I'm pretty pleased I paid with Paypal, because customer service thus far has been non existent. Sending me a monitor without a stand is bad enough but sending one that has a line going all the way down shows it was not tested properly.

You were warned, you didn't want to hear it.

Thanks for yet another terribly not useful post.

You will notice the thread is titled "did I do well". If you can't work that out it means I'd already ordered the monitor.

As such Captain Hindsight isn't very useful.

But I didn't ask, did I?

So all I've had are posts that are not useful and now gloating that I was wrong.

It doesn't matter any way. The monitor has arrived faulty so a courier can be sent to collect it and I'll get a refund. No biggy :)

Maybe then I'll post asking about what monitor I should get.

putting "did I do well" as the thread title, and then asking for opinions on bgrade/hazro, all you said in the OP was "Well I was poking around looking at monitors and found this"

you didn't actually say you'd already bought it, so I, amongst others, assumed you were asking for advice on whether to buy, which based on the rest of this thread and threads like this one, is a resounding no

you then got uppity with people telling you the answer to the question that you'd seemingly asked

end result is exactly why everyone here was saying to stay away from a hazro bgrade, you didn't need any other help, because, well, hazro... bgrade...

I didn't ask for opinions on B grade.

I would assume that a thread title called "Did I do well?!?" would obviously explain the fact that I had already ordered it. Nowhere did I mention I was thinking of buying it nor whether B grade items were worth the risk. TBH? there is no risk. I paid with Paypal, it's clearly not as described and is missing the stand (which is a crucial part in using the monitor) and has a dirty yellowish green line running from top to bottom on the right side so they're sending DPD to pick it up tomorrow, no risk, job done.

So yeah, basically all I wanted was owners of the same screen or any other Hazro to let me know their opinions on the particular screen.

Had it not had the line running down it I would have been happy tbh. The quality seemed OK and after fiddling with the calibration I almost had it looking decent. Needed more fettling but hey, can't live with a yellow line.

It's a shame. The size was just awesome..

Soo...

Now I am in the market for a monitor. I want 1200p or better, as big as possible, 60hz. Any recommendations for something under £370 would now be welcome :)

Ed, I don't want 4k. 1440p is fine also.

i have an Hazro HZ27WC which i purchased in sept on amazon ,cost me £200 new ,and i got a £35 rebate as it would not wake up from sleep mode.but have since fixed that.so £165 and it works perfect,it as one dead pixel but i never notice it.they are going for £285 now on amazon.out of interest which model was yours.

I doubt I will buy Hazro again, though the jungle would reassure me slightly tbh.

It was worth a try because I won't be buying another 30" monitor given they're mostly around £800.

I just bought some smaller Bose speakers to replace my very large ones, so I could fit one of those ultra wide things on the desk now. Sadly they're all 1080 high, so not of use to me :(

Ugh. Well having had a good hard look around the jungle actually sells this monitor brand new, cheaper than I paid for B grade. So I will be looking to re-order the Hazro if I'm honest because it ticked all of the boxes.

Warranty will not be an issue on the jungle either, it'll be two years solid....

The other monitor I am considering is the 27" Acer Predator, 144hz Gsync however it's 1080p but I may just be able to live with that.....

Deliberations, deliberations....

Lolz thought it was you, and here you are considering it yourself.

Yeah I have considered it :)

Thing is I didn't spend £1400 on graphics cards to play at 40 FPS. That would really depress me.

Once we get the graphical grunt to power 4k? yeah, will be on it for sure. That's going to take a few years though, and by then hopefully it'll be 4k Gsync/Freesync 144hz etc.

Until then I want to stick to something I can get a solid 60 FPS out of. That's what PC gaming does that the consoles can't..

So yeah, will probably order a new Hazro 30". I like the way it's made, big old chunky graphite coloured alu shell which matches my new Bose speakers perfectly :)

Hazro again

It's a good screen. LG, the same used in the Apple Cinema. When calibrated properly it's a very good screen and has a very good response time, unlike a lot of 4k screens.

If I can get a new one that works properly I'll be more than happy :)

My CF290X's run everything at 60fps minimum and they don't cost 1400 quid (never turn a setting down), or you can buy a 295X for 500 quid which will do the same job. Perhaps speak to other 4K users on here and see what their setups are instead of believing what you want to believe.

But they're not Titan Blacks, are they? I'd rather boil my genitals than have to put up with AMD drivers again. That's why I bought Titans, to get away from them !

Sounds to me you would rather do things cheap for now, if thats the case wait for freesync 4k.

Up to £400 on a monitor isn't exactly cheap. It does look it compared to the Swift, mind, but it's still a fair chunk of wedge.
