Had a letter through a few days ago telling me my tax for my prelude was due to expire so i thought i'd deal with it when i came home from being away for a few days. Fished out my MOT and realised its expired (woops!) so went to SORN my car until I can get it sorted (having some work done to it soon). Now i went on the website and filled out all the stuff and then i checked the reg number. It was for my old car (which i still own and have on my drive) which hasn't been taxed since this time last year and has never had another tax disk for it yet the according the DVLA site, the tax has just expired on it and my prelude still has tax remaining on it for a good few months!?!

No it just means the SORN is up and you have to renew it ( on your old car ).

Either that or you taxed the wong car last time and have a tax disc for the wrong car in the window. :p

Ah right, you have to SORN it every year then?? Will they fine you if you don't re-do it ?

Yes. You HAVE to either SORN or tax every time you get a reminder. I think if its not done they assume you are driving about untaxed and fined accordingly.

It used to be that you only had to tell them once it was SORN and only had to recontact them once you planned to drive with it again, now they make you declare it every year.

Seems a bit of a ball ache having to SORN it every year, because the normal people would just apply for the tax if and when they needed to drive it, and the bozo's who drive around untaxed just continue to do so anyway.

I seem to remember a lot of debate on these very forums when it came in. :p
