Did I kill my motherboard?

Hi guys.

New build almost completed, was messing with the cabling a bit around the back of the PC (just rearranging wires, not unplugging anything). The PC was switched on but no peripherals plugged in, just power.

Suddenly the whole thing shut down and now it won't start up or give any signs of life. The board is a Gigabyte x99m gaming 5 (transplanted from an old build along with the rest of the components so I know they all work) which has an LED readout in the corner. If I turn the power on at the PSU it just shows half of a one on both numbers - like two little dots. There is no mention of this code in the manual as far as I can see.

Power button on mobo or case don't work. I've unplugged stuff from the PSU and mobo I don't need but still nothing.

Is it dead? :(

I did try that yeah, it still works. Will email gigabyte support to see if they can say what that code means . Anyone know if the gigabyte rep is still on here?

Top tip!

Do not mess with power wires when computer is switched on, you can play with a few sata wires but do not mess with power wires.

Snap crackel and pop is the last thing you need in a PC.

Sounds like you fried MB if the readout is erroneous and incomprehensive. :(

Goodluck!

I wasn't unplugging or plugging anything just moving them around. Had an LED strip in and was trying different positions.

You might have snagged a cable and f00ked a usb port or similar causing a short. Closely inspect the ports just in case.

So I tried this morning taking the board out of the case and plugging it in with minimal components - just CPU fan and 1 stick of RAM, exact same symptoms. I will wait for a response from Gigabyte but looks like I'll be needing a new motherboard.
