I've currently got a MSI GTX 470 which im very happy with 1080p runs every game at max, the main reason change was that my old 5870 blew. I've been reading that the 470 is equal to the ati 5850, is this true? If so i feel such a fool.:(

The great thing about the 470 is its overclocking, at stock its just behind the 5870 but overclocks to atleast stock GTX480 performance.

Overclock the 470 and it will beat an overclocked 5870 by ~10%. Newer games prefer the 470's tessellation performance over that of the 5800's. AMD released the 6950/6970 to battle the 470 & 480 parts.

I upgraded from a 470 to a 5870, it benched higher, ran on lower temps, was 10x less noisey and didn't die after a few weeks like the 470 did.

Sorry :p

Its very few the numbers of 470's that wont overclock to 800mhz, theyre an absolute bargain, good case with decent airflow and they can run pretty quiet with perfectly acceptable temps.

You have already said you are very happy with your current card so who cares what anybody else thinks? ;)

GTX 470 should be a good card. But next time I'd suggest first looking up the benchmark and reviews and then buying mate ;)

Got it with a whole system from OCuk, usually build systems myself but due to time and stress i gave the burden to OCuk they did an A+ job btw. Just worried about overclocking the gpu wouldn't that void the warrenty?

Anyway you're right should've done some better info gathering.;)

Cheers

To be honest mate I would have thought that the 470 was closer to the 5870 than a 5850 (disclaimer - don't flame me if I'm wrong I have neither a 5850 or a 470).

You should be able to tell us - you have had both cards, so do games feel slower, faster or the same?

I play a lot of BFBC2 so i think it's a mute point because of the cpu usage.

Had a E8400 @ 4GHz and the 5870 tbh can't really notice any noticable difference to my trained eye:p

Upgraded/Downgraded from a 5870 to a 470.

At stock I believe the 5870 was a little quicker and was certainly cooler and quieter.

Once I'd sorted the cooling and thereby the noise clocked the 470 to an easy 700mhz at which pace it was as good as, if not better than the 5870.
