Did I make a smart move buying this ?

Actually I am still waiting for my case :) It has not even shipped yet, and now I am having 2nd thoughts. Currently my rig is in an Akasa Mirage case. The problem with the Etasis (same psu actually as Silverstone Zeus, but without the fancy sleeving) is it is a server style psu with the 80mm fan in the front of it. It has no 120mm fan on bottom. So the PSU really cannot aid in case cooling. Which as you say looks to be the way this Lian Li was designed. So to be honest, I probably am not doing myself any favours from a cooling perspective by going with the G70.

Hence I am considering the Coolermaster Stacker 810 and possibly the Silverstone TJ09 again.

In all honesty, I bought the G70 to do some Water Cooling with, and in retrospect, as you say, for air cooling I don't think this is the case to go with. If sticking with the Lian Li range, then perhaps one of the V range would suit you better.

Otherwise, before I got my G70, I was seriously considering the Akasa Eclipse case. Other than that, the Stacker 810 was another option. I also considered the Gigabyte Aurora, but ruled this out as the intake fan is badly blocked by the front drive bays in this case.

I think I am going to go back to my original watercooling plan, and go for the custom setup.

Whatever you decide to do, if you need any advice, feel free to shout. I spent months languising over the decision of a new case, and am really happy with my G70. However, if your definitly going air cooling, then perhaps another less involved case would suit you better.

hot air rises, so shouldnt the old rule of fans at the bottom half blow air into the case, and fans at the top suck hot air out of the case be applied iregardless of what is inside?

if you had an efficient enough air flow, you light a small fire inside and it wouldnt overheat. ok that is a blatant exageration but the theory still "holds water" so to speak

You would think, but this is not the way Lian Li are making cases these days. The A10 for example blows cold air in from the top onto your cpu heatsink, and the rear fan extracts hot air out. I always thought this created a "short circuit" as the cold air is sucked out as fast as it get blown in. Then on the same case, they have another fan extracting hot air from the gpu, and another fan at the bottom blowing cold air over the hard drives. The Silverstone TJ09 on the other hand blows cold air onto the gpu instead of extracting, and for the cpu area you have 1 reaf fan and the option to add 2 more fans on top (presumably extracting air). Silverstones approach makes more sense to me, then what Lian Li have been doing lately with airflow.

Can't really help you as such, but on reading this I can't see one good reason why not to just stick with the Eclipse?
Its more than capable of keeping everything cool and has loads of space inside.

Some people like something a little more classy.

Just because a case can do it does not mean you will not go for something that has the 'wow' factor. Main criticism of the Eclipse is that when anyone not in the know has a look at them it rarely makes them think the PC is something special, a v1000 or most of Lian Li's range just from being aluminium generally gets a better reaction just due to how it appears to them.

Another vote for the Etasis ET850......... extreme power for a decent price!

Only prob i have in my Eclipse is it is a little on the noisy side, pob because the 80mm fan is thermaly controled, and a bit away from the normal airflow cycle...... maybe a fan duct or a top 120mm would help? Or a fan swap for a quieter fan.

OK, the Eclipse isnt the MOST attractive case in the world, though it isnt too bad, but i go for function over form any day, and it is a great functional case.

You know - you're 100% correct - Akasa Zen in White must take the prize for looking like the most expensive thing to the uninitiated, surely. I offered a bunch of graphic designers V600's in Black or Silver but they went for Akasa Zens in White because they matched their Apple Monitors. I kid you not. I had costed the machines on the V600 case though, so I may have neglected to tell them of the substantial increase in my profit :o

But the Zen is not a bad case at all. :p

Those are the sort of people you enjoy working with. Each to their own with regards the looks of a case, if we all liked the same thing then the world would be a boring place.

The SR71 design is just superb, nothing you would really change and it is probably the best case out there, but I would never have my main rig in one. :D

Case has to have a feel good factor, regardless of imperfections.

You are talking about the 80mm fan on the Etasis. Yeah..it can wind up when the load increases, like all semi-server grade psu's.

By the way - do you hear a sort of faint electrical buzz (pretty high pitched) from your Etasis ? I can hear it on mine, and very obvious when you put your ear to the back of the psu. Sort of a buzzsaw effect. Not too loud, but irritating as it's at a different ptich from the case fans/ Just wondering if I have a dud.

Tell me about it. In the end I ordered a Lian Li A10B. From looking on other forums looks like I am completely out of luck mounting my Tuniq Tower as it's going to be touching the top fan. This is an imperfection in my book as now I am going to have to settle for a cpu cooling solution not as good, which with a quad core is not something you really want to do. Now having second thoughts about the A10. Of course if I got the TJ09 I would not have these issues, but then again I don't like the look of the front of this case at all - too plain just below the on/off buttons. And the side is hideous. I also heard from a few people the quality of the sidepanels is not lian li A10 standard but that is just heresay.

So is the A10 not so great then? I thought it was supposed to be a super case? I must say, I'm VERY surprised if you can't get a Tuniq in there. It's a slightly wider case than the V1000, and the Tuniq fits in there just fine, so I'm puzzled by this. Have you got the case yet, assuming you stuck with your order? What are your impressions??

Nope I cancelled again......the tuniq will not fit if you use an evga mobo because the cpu socket is positioned so high the top of the tuniq interferes with the top 120mm fan in the lian li. Not a problem with the bad axe I had, but definitely a problem with 680i. So I cancelled.

Then I was set on a tj09 but no one had stock, and then I thought I would water cool my mirage. Still mulling it over.

The Lian-Li PC-G70 still gets my vote here.

Managed to finish modding the top of the case at weekend, and test fitted my PA120.3 with shroud and fans - fits a treat.

Just need to get some 5mm Self Tappers that are longer than 12mm to fit the Rad properly, then its on to the next stage of testing the loop.

Thinking about it. Was initially thinking about a basic all in one yoke that clips onto the 120mm rear fan area but now looking at more elaborate solutions.
