Just wondering if anything else came out in that time. I'm intending to search for Tachyon and pick it up if it's cheap (which it will be), but anyhting ense I shoud look at? Just spent £30 on my first joystick, looking to get some good use out of it.
Did I miss any Freespace-style space fighters?

I found Freespace (and more so with Freespace 2) very arcadey which is one of the main reason I loved them. The only game that comes close, in my opinion, is Freelancer. It can be picked up for <£5 nowadays and I'd vastly recommend it. Also Freespace 2 if you haven't played that.

Freespace 2 from GOG.com and the open source mod psoted about somewhere on this forum packaged the first and its expansion along with it, and I've got Freelancer - never tried it with a joystick, but it's a lot more mouse-friendly than most in its genre.
