Hi, I had my phone connected to my PC to add stuff to some folders on phone, when the PC just went off...no bang or nothing.
I checked plug fuse and also took cover off psu to see if it had a fuse...which it did but was ok also.
I will take psu up to brother in law tomorrow to check it but was just wondering is there anything else other than the psu that caused the PC to die?
The psu was a 550w unbranded,I don't have a graphic card installed so a 550w should be big enough?....any suggestions for new psu,if I need one

Thanks for all the helpful replies, I won't put that old PSU back into computer, even ifs it's not the fault, so will look for a new one on the overclockers site.....under a £100 would be nice.

Ok,I was lucky to borrow a brand new power supply from a friend...computer still not turning on.

for some reason I unplugged 20 pin connector and put paper clip in green and black, The 4 pin power connector from psu was left connected on board,I then turned power supply switch to on and computers fans started running including cpu fan ,but with 20 pin connected..same fans don't turn on.
Computer on/off doesn't turn fans on/off with 4 pin ps connected.
So the question is..what's next to try.

Lovely...lol.
Just ordered a new psu that was recommended a few posts back but i think it will not be the fix but at least I know I will have good psu to start with.
Cheers

Ok, So waiting for my new Psu to arrive, I am wondering should I have maybe have ordered a new motherboard as well...trying to second guess if motherboard might be the problem...what's the odds?.
Was thinking if I had new motherboard on hand and put cpu on it and try to start it with new psu..if it doesn't start..the cpu is dead ?....not sure if that's how it works?
And if it's the case that it's not the motherboard...I have a spare MB.
My motherboard atm is a MSI H81M-P33, bought that one because I thought I was going to use a smaller case...but didn't,so I am not tied to that size of MB
By keeping original cpu and ram...if all is ok, is it worthwhile upgrading to a better spec MB?.

CPU ....G3220 3GHz socket 1150...
Just realised I've had this set up 7 years...where does the time go, so maybe time for cpu upgrade as well.
As I don't do gaming or watch movies on computer, computer is mostly use for browsing and light photography work, so what's your thoughts on a beneficial upgrade?
CJ

Moved this question to " upgrade "forum..cheers
