Did something stupid/Windows activation

I was repairing my Windows installation, and I couldn't find my original CD that I used to install XP a long, long time ago.

So I decided to use my brother's....but then Windows asks me for a Product Key, so I think, hmmm, I will put his in too activate it (currently in use on his version upstairs although this might not be the case as I think he used to have a bootleg version but then used the product key to "get genuine") and I can just change the key to mine later.

The problem is, I found mine but it won't let me change it as it keeps saying "this product is already activated". What happens when he comes home and turns his computer on at the same time as mine? What happens next time I turn mine on?

What will happen with the same key in use on 2 PCs?

Hope this isn't too touchy a subject. I don't want cracks or anything like that so it should be OK, right?

The weird thing is that I have been reading that I shouldn't even have been able to activate on my computer using that product key if it was already activated on his computer....but it let me, and I turned my brother's computer on, and it went into Windows without saying anything....and just now I rebooted and it didn't say anything then, either.

Maybe this is the first time it has been activated online?

You might have a problem when it comes to updating the pc through windows update. Only one way you will find that out . . .
