Did the cold affect your car ?

Coming home from the local PH meet last night identified the Z4's weakness... 1" of fresh snow! The lack of traction was hillarious once I hit the freshly fallen back roads, DTC off was helpful but kept stablity on and limped home on idle in 2nd gear. Any throttle resulted in a slow motion glide sideways, once I reached home I struggled to go up the gentle incline which is my driveway... a run up was required! :D

The car really needs a proper limited slip diff, I miss that from my 200sx. Apart from that I'd say any car with pillarless doors would be wise to treat the rubber seals where the window presses with silicon spray or preferably GummiPfledge, will help stop them freezing shut!

It did mine.
God knows how it happened but after been stood outside work today something had frozen in the drivers door which meant it wouldn't bloody close !

I had to drive home holding onto it to make sure it didn't open, was a right draft coming in !
mine does this at about -10C. pouring a kettle or 2 full of freshly boiled water over the lock and handle usually solves this problem :D

I dont get these at all, i know its very cold outside, ive just come from there!
the best is when it comes on at -5C, after warming up from -6C

the door is the only problem i had related to temperature last year in norway. it always started first time, even at -15C. sounded horrific and smoked rather a lot, but it started without a fuss every time.

Yes, the cold affected my car. I had frozen locks to contend with when opening her up this morning, and they'd re-froze by the time I got to work (a ~10 mile drive mostly on the A38). You'd think I'd have gotten used to it by now, what with having the car for over nine ******* years. But no - it still surprises me every damned time.

Christ I'm an idiot.

Battery sounded a tad empty when I started my car the first day it froze ( turning sounded slower) but luckily my car always starts in one or two turns.

Aside from that, so far it has behaved as it should.

my windscreen wipers wouldnt wipe properly as they were rock hard.
I opened my door and loads of snow fell in the car (didnt learn from that mistake and done it again to my parents scenic later :D)

my MPG droped from 41mpg to 36mpg due to 1: everyone driving so slow (on normal treated roads) and 2: from me constantly loosing traction on untreated roads.

I liked the snow though, it kept people away from lakeside/romford shopping centers :D

you must be driving it quite aggresively normally then :p
mine's gone down to 30mpg in town now, 30!
being held up by people in summer tyres is not only annoying, but it's also costing me money :(

well when i wasnt able to pin it (empty road/roundabout or when i happened to find myself on a huge empty industrial estate) i was tip toeing about like miss daisy. i dont want to become one of the statistics we all laugh at and loath

traffic was clearer as people obviously skived more successfully than i did

My van, I opened the door, stuck the key in and it started as it always does. Good reliable ford there!

My car, I unlocked it, tried to open the door, frozen shut, (decided sack it will use the other car) locked it and the alarm went off so the door was open enough to trigger that. Had to go get some warm water and pour it all over the B pillar to break the seal. Other than that, no problems starting, key in, prime pump and starts first turn of the key.

Finally learning the lessons of previous winters I'd sprayed a little WD40 into the locks and put some silicon grease on the door rubber so no, no problem at all.

handles had a tendency to stay open rather than returning, but otherwise no problems, apart from the obvious its chuffing cold and the car park was an ice rink

door was frozen shut just now, nothing a bit of manual persuasion couldn't sort out though. Heater worked marginally less well than normal, been thinking it's had a slowly dying thermostat for a while though, must get round to replacing it. I suppose it's natural for the vent temp to be a bit lower when you have super cold ambient temp though so maybe it's nothing to do with the stat after all.
