I had to leave my last job through ill health but i
have been actively seeking work for 6months.

I'm at home with the folks at the moment until i get sorted.
apart from boredom i have become fixated on my mums health.
she is 68 and suffers with a bad back, probaby arthritus / old age.

because i have so much time on my hands i can't seem to think of
anything else and it's driving me nuts.

am i going stir crazy ?

what things did other people do when they were out of work
to kill the boredom ?

I was working 2 day due to my health, drove me nuts. Literlary, I am actually psychotic.

Try some voluntary work, you can choose what/how much you do and stems the boredom. Looks better for interviews too.

A LOT of thinking firstly,

followed by trying to keep yourself busy rather than going stir crazy,

playing online games cured it for a while but then just went barmey on VWorker and Freelancer (remote working jobs).

Tell you one thing, if you have free times on your hands and can't physically work. It does work wonders to be able to do some remote working (doesn't pay much but it does help you in many ways). Volunteering as well too.

Hope it helps you.

Voluntary work is a great suggestion until you can get a paying job, worked in action cancer a few hours a week and must say even though it is work, it is quite enjoyable plus it will give you something to do and look great on your CV

I volunteer for Age UK as an IT support helper several times a week. It's really fun getting to help people and feeling like you're doing something.

The weekends can be a drag though, so recently I've took to random killing to stave off the boredom. I find that prostitutes and the homeless are the best targets.

Why dont you just go and get some temp work through whichever agency is nearest? Yes it will pay badly but it would give you something to do?

My O/H was made redundant during pregnancy therefore cant really get another job just yet, so she is just going company to company temping until the baby is due, it took about 2 days to set up post redundancy.

I did lots of little things. 2 local mental health charities needed PC's installing. A non-profit cafe needed its website updating with new prices etc. Very simple stuff, but its something to do and helps others.

mine wasn't technical, i was on the shop floor, mainly building furniture as the 2 people who ran the store were both over 60, best that i do the heavy lifting. the rest was just managing the till, and filling the shelves. Plus it does help others :D:D:D

I hate being out of work. I had Monday this week off work and I felt like I was just sponging off society even though it was a booked leave day. When I was off for several months a few years ago I felt like I wasn't contributing to society. Terrible feeling.

It depresses me when I have a day off and I see so many people on the streets and shopping. They can't all be on leave.

I did a pointless SIA course, got my licence and started working 5-10 hours at weekends doing Stadium Security, it was mind numbing but got me out of the house, luckily I was only out of work for 3 weeks.

It was horrific. Some days the highlight of my day was simply having a shower or getting dressed. I am of the firm opinion that a man needs some form of agency/purpose/activity in life.

I found I had to go for regular walks to a supermarket about 40 minutes away, runs around the woods most mornings and just trying to get out whenever I could just to keep sane. Even four/five years on I start getting very agitated and restless if I have more than a couple of days at home without doing anything productive.

I was out of work for 18 months a few years ago and I hated it. I was off for medical reason and so couldn't take any work at all or I would lose my benefits.

I hated it and went stir crazy.

That sounds like the makings of a lawsuit!

Only because of lack of money, really. I have enough hobbies to keep me busy full time. Gaming, guitar, painting, movies, writing. Would quite happily spend my life as a shut in doing nothing but... but I needs to get paid, yo!

Not really, massive american multinational making hundreds of people redundant as part of a mass restructuring with very generous redundancy terms. There would be nothing to gain :)

Best thing to do is take the money, go and temp here and there until its due (which is what the OP should just do surely?) and then get another job down the line.

I work seasonally on a farm, have done for 11 years now since I was 13. During the off peak season the boss man often struggles to find me work, and if I can't find any elsewhere and I don't have anything to do I find something in the community to do.

Just as an example, grab an old broom handle and attach a spike of some sort to the end (keep it short, don't get arrested for using a tribal spear :D), take some bin bags and go pick up some litter in the local area. In a day you can clean up a good chunk of your neighbourhood and you will feel pretty good for doing it, not to mention you might get some charity back from local trade; Cafe's often give out free tea/coffee to volunteers.

Also, whilst you look for work consider volunteer work at local charities. It always looks good on a CV and within a few months you can get dozens of work rolls added and many people who will provide references.
