Well, probably more like the holy grail of diesel questions...

How do I get my Diesel Astra to sound less like a Diesel? I love the MPG I get but in the mornings when it's cold and hasn't been started, it is very noisy and although she works fine, I need her to be quiet! Any suggestions at all? :D

Doubt you'd be able to quieten it down very much, as engines are usually made to be quiet as possible anyway. So probably the best way to quiet it down: buy a petrol engine :p

If it would fit you could try some of that fire retardant noise surpressing stuff on the underneath of the bonnet but I very much doubt it would make even the slightest bit of difference.

You can paint "Massey Ferguson" down the side and go camoflage :D

On a more serious note, there isn't much you can do to calm the rattle of an oilburner, it's part of the nature of the beast.

Damn... oh well I'd have to live with it, it just seems noisy until it's warmed up a bit - I know other diesels are quieter but it may be because mine has 160k on it :p

I have another question too, does anyone know if the mk 4 Vauxhall Astra bumper differs between petrol and diesel engines? I need another one but not sure if the mounting bolts differ between variants...

THANKS! :D
