Hey guys,

So I am currently living in India and have been here for 6 months now. I am pretty fit cardio wise and run 2 times a weeks and walk about 6km a day. I also do lots of hiking through the mountains and recently completed some big high altitude treks, but for some reason I cannot get rid of my gut!

Now living in India makes it hard to diet, and from what I can understand, something that would help me would be to cut out carbs? Is this correct?

Obviously the food in India IS carbs. I am also vege so i cant go piling on meat.

Currently I eat Rice, Dahl (all pulses) and Vegetables (changes daily what veg, could be pumpkin, potatoe, peas) and Chapati TWICE a day and then fruit and porridge for breakfast (eggs are optional if i wanted but for some reason i never get them, worth eating for me?)

I have no choice in my evening meal as it is prepared for me, so cooking is a no go.

Now I guess I could cut out the afternoon meal, but i always get very hungry. Or I could cut out the rice and Dahl of both meals and just have the veg? Then eat a load of fruit? Would this help with weight loss?

I have got into a bit of a habit of getting crisps and sugar drinks, so this is going to be cut out again. A few months I was doing well and lost weight, but recently it is coming back on.

Also can anyone recommend any good exercises for around the house. I have no weights or anything here.

Currently I do press-ups and pull-ups on a bar outside. Sit-ups and then running. I'm pretty wide shouldered and relatively in shape for someone who doesn't work out really, its just the gut thats the main problem I feel.

Thanks!

Right now i have just decided to cut down my portion size and have completly cut out fizzy drinks. I will see how this goes for a few weeks.

Im eating more veg and less carbs in the evening, but still the same as lunch to get me through the day. I have cut down my breakfast portion too, and now have porridge and a piece of fruit.

I wish i had a kitchen here!

Don't cut out a food group. Sure it might shock your system initially and promote some weight loss but it normalises and you're then missing one of your macros.

You've answered your own question. Eating crap snacks and drinking sugary drinks.

What are your portions like? And do you really keep an eye on everything you eat?

Calorie deficit.

Calorie deficit.

Consider Intermittent Fasting + Calorie deficit.

You might find this useful:

Ultimately no single food group is more predisposed to cause weight gain than any other, so stop treating them that way.
