I'm currently using an Edimax EW-7728IN wireless n PCI card, and its fantastic. There's only one problem, and that's that it is PCI. My motherboard's only got two PCI slots, which are taken up with the wireless card and my sound card, but I'm also thinking of going Crossfire with my graphics cards, which will block off a PCI slot. The wireless card seems far cheaper to replace with a PCI-E version than the sound card would, but after looking around, the only affordable PCI-E card running 300Mbps wireless n is the Edimax EW-7612PIn.

As it stands, I currently get 240 - 300Mbps depending on what's happening between me and the router. I'd love to just go cabled, but its far too far. Would I see any real drop in performance going from 3 to 2 antenna as I would by switching to the 7612PIn?
Equally, are there any other cards I should be looking at? This is the only affordable one I've spotted. Thanks in advance :)

No, but I'm not allowed to drill holes through the walls/ceiling, and a cable trailing all the way would be rather impractical unfortunately :(

Wouldn't it also be possible to have some kind of wireless box, like an access point or something with an Ethernet port on it and use that to connect with?

Hmm, that's certainly an option I'd not considered! That said, the cheapest access point OcUK do is £30 and even then it still only has 2 antenna, so wouldn't be much different from having a £10 cheaper pci-e card with 2 antenna?

D-Link Xtreme N PCI Express Desktop Adapter DWA-556 Network adapter - PCI Express x1 ? Maybe you know about it already?

Around £60 though. I have one (it was the only PCIe card available at the time) -its very good

:)

is your router by you tv?

if so what about sending a wire to the loft and the follow the internal aerial tube downstairs like i did, nothing really uses tv aerials now so i just removed mine pilling the ethernet down in its place.
