Difference between 570 & 580?

Hello all,

Just bought myself a nice new 570 card, not even installed it yet as had a bit going on in real life this week. Anyway, I put my old card, the free batman game and a few bits on that auction site and got a few quid more than expected.

I can still DSR the 570 and could now get myself a 580 with the extra cash. Would this be much of a difference given that I game at 1080p with no 3d or dual monitor set up?

Just needing a little guidance in if the gains from the 580 are really worth it or stick with the 570 and spend that extra cash on something else?

Cheers,
Mike

Can you return it even though you sold the free game that came with it?

I'd of thought that you would have to return it exactly as you got it.

GTX 570 IMO is a great GPU, 580 however is faster.

The only real difference you will see is when benchmarking and your scores, in games you are talking more FPS from the 580, however you probably wont see the difference too much in game.

If it was my choice and had the cash 580 :)

or a 570 for SLI :D:p

Nymins - yeah I had thought about the free game. However if I was getting another Nvidia card with the promo I am sure I could just ask to take the new free game from the new card.

I don't have the cash for another 570 I don't think. Would 570 in SLI not be overkill for my usage anyway? Can't imagine Skyrim is going to be too brutal on the system :)

I think I may well go for the 580 - then if the need ever arises I can SLI it. But I should be set for the next few years at the very least.

I'd keep the 570, put me money away and add a little to it each week and wait for nvidia 600 series in 2012....then sell the 570, go down the pub for a celebratary drink and pat myself on the back. :-) May I suggest "The baron of beef" in Cambridge as I believe this to be a very clever idea and outdoes Sir Clive Sinclair and Christopher Curry.

40-50% more, for ultimately, 15% more performance(both numbers vary depending on price you get either for assuming 570 for £260 and 580 for £360, its 40% more).

With the next to top card, most of the performance loss is usually simply in reduced clocks, with no reason you can't overclock to the same speeds a 580gtx would reach, so you'll miss 5-6% performance from the drop in shaders at the same clocks.

If they were 10-20% higher cost, it might be worth it, when you're talking about such a significant increase in price, its not worth it.

570gtx is more than good enough, and clock for clock, in most games you're talking about a completely indistinguishable frame rate difference. No game will be playable on a 580gtx and unplayable on a 570gtx generally.

Thanks every one for the help. After thinking about it I might as well keep the 570 and if ever needed just SLI it. However as I have the extra cash at the moment, I feel a new case is perhaps in order. But that is a thread for the case section. :)
