Difference between 770 gtx and 970 gtx?

200 times better? 200 pounds heavier? 200 pounds more expensive ? :D

Stupid question but assume the 970 is a decent step up ?

Depends on the game and the settings you want to play at.

I came to a 970 from a 570, but, tbh, my 570 was fine if I was prepared to drop a few settings and switch AA off. On older games, you could play with everything pretty much maxed. All this @1920x1200, btw.

What games do you play? I upgraded for the newer games that are just coming out.

At 1080 and 1440p the 970 owns the 770 easily, speaking from xp, for eg. watch dogs was a dead give away, on ultra my old 680 and 770 were struggling big time, but now with my 970 its smooth sailing.
By the way watch dogs is a bit of a cack game, bad opt. too, just used as a eg. for benching and vram stressing.

The 970 will shine when the true next gen stuff finally starts rolling out this month, the VRAM alone will help with multi-platform games.

However 970 is priced a lot higher than the 770 and despite being 50% faster costs about 50% more. So depending on budget I wouldn't rule out the 770 just yet (or indeed its red rival the R9 280X which has 3GB VRAM).

Here are the 3d mark tests for each.

Certainly a marked improvement! Nor sure why its complaining about the driver as only just downloaded it.
