Newby Question........
What does the Black Edition add to an AMD CPU, higher spec or something?
Or different coloured packaging:D:D

As far as I know, a black edition simply has an unlocked multiplier, in theory making Overclocking a fair bit easier, much like Intel's Extreme Edition range.

  • AMD® Phenom II Black Edition = Beginner Overclockers & Benchmarking Overclockers
  • AMD® Phenom II = Non-Overclockers & Proficient Overclockers
The B.E chips I've bought in the past come with a Heatsink?

Unlocked multi and a nice black box is the only difference to it.
They're usually the higher clocked ones as well.

There is nothing to do with the heatsink about it, that's up to either RETAIL ( with heatsink ) or OEM ( without heatsink ) and both can usually be found for either black or normal versions.

All my RETAIL BE's have come with a heatsink.
A 940, couple of 965's and a 1090t.

There was a time when the retail BE's didnt have a heatsink but AMD changed this policy quite some time ago.

Personally though i'd rather they were supplied without a heatsink, with a small price decriment of course :)

i had BE sent to me the other month for a build, and it came with the old FX Style heatsink, the ones with the copper heat pipes.
