Difference between AM3 chips?

Hi guys,

Recently joined and tentatively pricing up a spec for a first build. I notice that the OCUK website split the AMD AM3 motherboards into a separate 700 or 800 chipset category. What is the difference between them and which would be more appropriate for an Athlon II X4 630 @2.8GHz?

Cheers,
Brian.

I bought an Athlon II x4 640 @ 3ghz today, and as far i could tell the only difference was price.

I believe that the 800 are the never version, so are therefore probably better.

Although things like the ASROCK N68-S3 might do you nicely.

Budget board, with great OC features.

The 800 is the newer chipset. Not sure what the massive difference is but I would go for a newer chipset one anyway.
