Difference between cable & broadband routers

ADSL Routers have a built in ADSL modem, whereas cable ones dont - hence why they are cheaper.

Cable routers also tend to have more third party firmwares available, like Tomato and DD-WRT should you fancy making a 'cheap' router perform much better and have lots more options/settings to play with.

If you have an ADSL modem then a cable router will work fine, if you don't have a separate modem then you need an ADSL router as they will have a built in modem.

As your with Sky you need an ADSL router, make sure you can get your ADSL username/password first before you buy anything - afaik Sky wont give it to you and you cant extract it from the Sky router either unless someone else knows otherwise.

To answer your question simply you need a router from this section

Sky routers that they supply have a unique username and password for each router ( not your or your friends aco**** )

there is a tool online that allows you to enter your serial code and mac address from the bottom of the router which generates the username and password required but im unsure whether i can post the link here.

if you search google for 'sky username password generator' you'll find it

Hi all,

I have just bought the Netgear DGND3300 router with DSL modem as I'm with Sky (as suggested above).

Can anyone give me a step by setp guide on how to connect as sky won't support.
I've ssen the links to password generators but how or where do I enter them.
I connect up the router as normal but it won't allow me to enter the normal 168.192.0.1 route... help please

Many thanks in advance
