I can buy a Pentium Dual core 3.4 processor for £100, yet the core2duo is £120 for 2x1.8 - So why is the latter more expensive for less? and which would perform better at games? I'm confused :o

Aargh help I'm torn between the two!

for £115 you can get the 2x1.86 conroe chip, or £99 gets you a 3.4 x2 pentium D chip. My brain is telling me "it's just 1.86 for more money"

Is it really more like 3.6 performance when playing games? as I've read that games aren't wrote for dual core thus it's only running at 1.86.
Is this right or wrong? Quick! I have my credit card in my hand.... :p

Well, I ignored all the advice  :p Got a D 945 for £95. I'll just keep it for a year, then the faster conroe chips will have come down in price and of course AMD will have well and truly waded in with their version. :)

Oh - what's the 950? I have a 945 with the 800fsb, what's the difference or are they the same thing?

Steve, can you answer my question post in this section? as you have almost the same chip as me. what temp does it show normally? mine's 80c and wondering if that's okay?

Ahem, I'm just Reading the beginner's guide to overclocking :o Somebody call the fire brigade.. I smell burning :p I read of even the cheap C2D chips being o/clocked to 3Gig and beyond.. I'd just like a smaller, safe overclock to 2.5 say. do you think a complete newb with the guide and help from this fine forum can achieve this? And reading the guide it looks like a Decent heatsink/fan + some good thermal paste is really all that's needed?

I have a cheap ish cooler master heatsink + fan at the moment. MOBO is Asrock DUAL-VSTA as I wanted to keep my 6600GT for the moment. Only other thing is I currently only have 1 gig of 5300 DDR2 RAM. Do you need to have 6400 to overclock the CPU?

Great! I realise my mobo isn't the best, the giveaway was the price at under £40. You reckon I can get an overclock to near to 2.5 tho?

Yeah, 2.1 would be great, not far off the 6400 speed. It's just a chance for me to have a go at overclocking. Going to take it s-l-o-w and not do anything I'm not sure of. Hurry up, chip!
