Difference between Golf TDI and GT TDI?

Both seem to have the same bhp, 0-60, top speed, and the same equipment.

Anyone know the difference?

GT is the trim level, TDI is the engine.

On the back of Golfs, some say TDI, some say GT TDI.

With the Mk4, GTI/GT is just a trim level meaning sports seats and alloys.

If it says TDI on the back, it has hardly any bhp, irrespective of number of red letters.

I have a Golf GT TDi, it has all the GT trimmings, seats etc but on the back it doesn’t have the GT badge part. The car is 100% GT spec though.

I have TD (RED I) and mines 110bhp, a lot quicker than the 1.4 piece of garbage I used to drive, no problem with acceleration and overtaking.

VW did some unforgiveable things in the early part of this decade. Badging crap 114bhp petrol cars as GTI and noisy slow 110bhp diesels as GT are among the worst.

Like I said, plenty fast enough for me, and yes, someday I would love to own that R32, or even a BMW, hell id even go for a GT TDi 150 but my wallet just couldnt take any more battering on the insurance

Nothing wrong with the 110 engine anyway.

I think making the mk4 golf weigh more than the average planet was worse

Quick look on Autotrader specs shows 0-62 as 8.8 secs and 140bhp?

Saying that, it's not much slower than mine but that hardly makes me go "Woohoo!" all the time

For an economical diesel hatch, no, nothing wrong at all. Had you bothered to engage brain before hitting reply you'd have noticed that the point I was making is that it shouldn't have been badged as a GT. Doesn't make a it a bad engine.

If you MUST get the word BMW into every thread (This actually is very annoyin - BMW is in every thread becuase jokers you like bring it in, then I'm the one that gets criticised for being a fanboy?), think of it as if BMW had badged the 330i 'M3'. Nothing wrong with the engine at all but god it would have been underpowered and slow for an M3. Get my point?

170bhp, 7.7 secs and still managed 40mpg. Not bad for a 1.4

yea it would be like BMW making up a trim level with M in it, that would look well gay having M on cars that arent really the M model

That Red "I" business is a load of old crap anyway - it does not denote engine power.

I've even seen people advertising them for sale as "Redeye's"!!, because they think they have a special car.
