Hi all,

Is there any big difference between the two processors? one is CD and 2.4 is C2D.

I can get the 2.16 for about £400 less, rest of the specs are similar.

Thanks

C2D is 64 bit, and also having that extra Ghz will improve the performance a fair bit over the 2.16.

Have a look at these cleverly placed links;

At the end of the day, it's your choice of what one to go for, but I'd spend the extra cash, especially as with the newer MBP you'd be getting better battery life because of the LED back lighting and other general improvements.

2.4 supports 4GB of RAM, and the 2.16 supports 3GB.

As said above, the 2.4 has a much longer battery life, better screen, processor etc. You also get a better GFX card in the 2.4 (8600GT M)

It's definitely worth the extra imo.

Stop rubbing it in. :p

I like my 2.33Ghz, x1600 MBP!

Mwahaha!

How longer is the battery life?

It lasts around 4-5 hours (pushing it, 6 with the brightness low) with normal use (web browsing and listening to music) on my 2.4.

Not sure what the older ones were like, 2-3 hours iirc.

I cant see the battery lasting 1-2 hours more with the LED screen. I also remember all the hoo-haa about MPB battery life when it launched (Apple didnt publish them) and I'm sure they were rated for 4-5 hours when they eventually made it onto the site.

What are you going to be doing with the laptop? If youre doing Photoshop work and planning to run Windows or Linux in a VM then go with the more expensive. If youre just going to be browsing the web and watching videos, save yourself £400.

Hmm, I'll take your word for it. I dont think there is a difference in power consumption between the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo chips so it must be the chipset where improvements have been made.

I still stand by my usage thing though - if you're just web browsing and word processing then save your pennies. The Core Duo is a GOOD CPU.

Those are Apple's stats, which in my experience are usually pretty good estimates.

I have noticed that there is more battery for your charge.

The Core Duo's and the first revision of Core 2's have the same chipset, video etc. The latest Santa Rosa MBPs (2.2Ghz/2.4Ghz with the nVidia graphics and LED screen) pull a lot less juice.

5hrs on an original MBP - LOL :D
I once got 3.5hrs once. After 12 months the battery gets around 1.5hrs in normal use. It was replaced twice under warranty for manufacturing faults.
