At the end of the day, it's your choice of what one to go for, but I'd spend the extra cash, especially as with the newer MBP you'd be getting better battery life because of the LED back lighting and other general improvements.
I cant see the battery lasting 1-2 hours more with the LED screen. I also remember all the hoo-haa about MPB battery life when it launched (Apple didnt publish them) and I'm sure they were rated for 4-5 hours when they eventually made it onto the site.
What are you going to be doing with the laptop? If youre doing Photoshop work and planning to run Windows or Linux in a VM then go with the more expensive. If youre just going to be browsing the web and watching videos, save yourself £400.
Hmm, I'll take your word for it. I dont think there is a difference in power consumption between the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo chips so it must be the chipset where improvements have been made.
I still stand by my usage thing though - if you're just web browsing and word processing then save your pennies. The Core Duo is a GOOD CPU.
The Core Duo's and the first revision of Core 2's have the same chipset, video etc. The latest Santa Rosa MBPs (2.2Ghz/2.4Ghz with the nVidia graphics and LED screen) pull a lot less juice.
5hrs on an original MBP - LOL
I once got 3.5hrs once. After 12 months the battery gets around 1.5hrs in normal use. It was replaced twice under warranty for manufacturing faults.
