Hi,

I'm considering the TP-Link 411 version as I have found them quite cheap but am worried that there might be a considerable difference between the 411 and the 511.

Anyone able to advise?

Regards

TL-PA411 is 100Mb. It may say it's 500Mb, but if you put a 100Mb port on it then it wont go any faster than 100Mb. Runs around 2w of power.

TL-PA511 is 500Mb, it's virtually identical to the 411, except it has a 1000Mb port and it uses several different modulation types - the 411 has a 100Mb port and uses onlt OFDM modulatation. Uses 3x time as much power at 6w.

I'm not sure I understand that last statement.

I've got VM 50meg connection and have just been changed to the superhubs. Whether my PC connection has always been poor and I just didn't know about it, I now want to try and make the most of what I have.

I've been advised to purchase the 500's (not necessarily the TP-Link).

Regards

With AV500 adapters you’ll hopefully see a throughput in the 60Mbps to 80Mbps range. They can go faster, but they have to be so close together you may as well use a cable.

If the maximum achievable speed is 80Mbps then it doesn’t matter whether the Ethernet ports are 10/100 or Gigabit.

Hi,

Just an update. I went with the 500 PA511Kit in the end and have just connected the first two and I am very pleased to say that it's coming in at 18megs :) (i have a 20meg connection).

Although Homeplugs are dependent on the quality of your home wiring and distance apart, you should easily be looking to max that 20mb connection, these things can in theory support current fibre speeds.

I just purchased some 411's and noticed a big difference in throughput when the units are plugged straight into the wall socket. They can be very sensitive to other appliances drawing power.

Wall > Extension lead > Surge protected Extension lead.

You may already have them plugged in direct to the wall socket but if not worth a try.

I wouldnt be happy with that. I have the same kit and using the TP link software my connection between the two is just above 200Mbps. Easily maxes out my FTTC connection

So either your wiring is knackered or you are running through a surge protector extension.

looking at the two kits myself as on a 40mbps connection I get 8mbps with my current delvo 85s.. time for an upgrade.
