Somewhere, in a field in cheshire... alright!
Hello all,

Well it looks like my Samsung monitor is on the way out, it's taking ages to come on, the standby light just flashes and the screen stays black. Does work ok when its on though but it seems to be taking longer and longer to come on. Worried now it's not going to come on at all.

I've been looking at monitors and I like the look and price of these two but what's the difference between them apart from response time?

Is a faster response time better?

Thanks very much

Iggy

The first one uses a TN panel which has a faster response time (which is better), the second one uses an IPS panel which has better viewing angles and no gamma shift like a TN panel, which one you prefer may depend on what your main uses are. If I was going to buy either of those I would buy the second one.

This. Would also go with the second monitor.

I'll be doing a fair bit of gaming, watching dvd's and internet if that's any help. Is there a more suitable 24" monitor for under £200?

If you are running that 5870, between this time and the time you get the new GPU you won't be doing much gaming at all at 1440p

That hadn't occurred to me. I'm looking at august now for a new GPU. I've had my current monitor 7 years and would hope to have the replacement at least as long. Would going 1440p make more sense in the long run?

1440p is a great resolution and as most are still on 1080p, it should last for a while. However, I would HIGHLY recommend upgrading GPU too if gaming
