Difference in DIMM slot colour?

When I was upgrading my RAM I noticed that the new stuff wouldn't fit into the socket that my original 1gb stick was in.

I have four slots on my board, two yellow and two black, and whereas my old ram fit into the yellow, the new stuff would not.

They would however fit into the black, meaning that there must be some difference.

All DDR2.

Anyone know what the difference could be?

There should be no physical difference between the two slots. The color denotes which slots are paired when you're using RAM in dual chanel mode. That's it.

What mobo do you have? Can you take a photo of the slots in question?

I have an Asus M2V Motherboard. The slots all look identical apart from colour, unless there's a small detail that I might be missing? The two channels lined up okay, but the clips were never going down.

But yeah, the new RAM was having none of it...

There were no obstructions at all, I even refitted the old RAM two minutes later to see if that would fit.
