Hi,

Is there a major difference in RAM that is exactly the same aprt from one timing is 9-9-9-24 and one is 8-8-8-24

Its corsair vengence memory and there is around £20 difference.

Thanks

Nothing that you will notice outside of benchmarks.
But if you're that worried, if the 9,9,9,24 set is low voltage (1.5v) then there is a possibilty that it'll be able to run at 8,8,8,24 with 1.65v any way. Don't quote me on it and check reviews on that anyway.

I am currently trying to learn about this.

I have done a BIOS reset in the past but only just done a load-optimd-defaults after checking manual. My RAM timings have changed from 9-8-8-20 @ 1.65v to 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v. (Windows Perf Index has gone down slightly from 7.8 to 7.7, which I guess makes sense). Does this now mean I can set it from BIOS-default 1333 to proper-speed 1600 & enable XMP & maintain 24/7 stability?

What is the brand and spec of your memory?

If it's 12800 memory with a tested voltage of ~1.65V and if the timings for example were:

  • 9 9 9 24 - timings
  • 2T - Command Rate
  • 1600MHz - Frequency
  • 1.5V - 1.65V - Voltage

Then input the timings and Frequency manually and input the recommended voltage.

Test for stability and then reduce the voltage incrementally until it buckles.

Or, if you have Corsair (XMS3), G,Skill, or Kingston sets then drop the voltage to 1.5V and test from there - if it buckles up it incrementally.
