Looking to buy my first car and have around 2-3k to spend. Was thinking of getting something like a 52 plate 1.6 Focus.

I've noticed you can get the earlier versions a fair bit cheaper though so i'm debating to just pay say 1000-1500 and then get something else in a years time. Also i'd just get TPFT if I did this instead of going fully comp if I got something newer/towards the top of my budget.

What does the mk1.5 have that the mk1 dosen't, is it just the slight difference to the front end?

Also what other cars should I be looking at? Focus seems ideal as i'd be doing a few motorway miles, so don't wanna go down to Clio/106 size. Had a look at Mondeo's already but seems to push the insurance up by £400+

Dont start this 1.5 **** again

Do some more shopping with insrurance. Mondeo is probably the best bet.

Mk 1.5s have a different front end. The headlights have been changed so that they incorporate seperate main/low beam headlight bulbs and intergrated indicators (The Mk1 has indicators seperately on the bumper). 1.5s also have black bump strips on the front and rear bumpers, different foglight layout and different grills. There are also subtle interior changes, such as a redesigned centre console (With cupholders that aren't useless) and different colour options.

Quick question, if you had the choice which would you go for?

2002 FORD FOCUS 1.6 Zetec 3dr Hatchback - £2895

2001 FORD FOCUS BLACK 1.6 Zetec - £2495

The later being pre facelift but having heated leather, air con and a few other bits. 100,000 miles...

The 02 is the facelift model with 80k but no air con/leather..

I like the look of the facelift model better but I think i'd kick myself for not having air con at least.

Also whats considered high mileage on the Zetec engines?

Thanks

I would go for the one with AC and leather.

The engines will last for ages - the one in the Mondeo is now on 153k. It's not the engine you need to worry about its the rest of the car really.

Air con is a must for me, leather used to be a nice to have, but not any more tbh.

focus on high mileage, not a problem if looked after, my 04 53 plate currently has near on 75k on it, no issues other than those that would be expected tbh.
