Hello,

can anyone shed some light on the differences between the various members of the ASUS A8N-Series please?

I'm familiar with the A8N-SLI Premium as I used a few of them but the others seem to be cheaper and I'm not sure whats missing? Obviously the Premium is the only one with an all passive cooling solution and looking at the photos above it seems both the Premium and the Deluxe both come with 8 SATA ports but apart from that I'm not sure?

Which is the lowest spec out of the AN8-SLI and AN8-SLI SE? (What does SE stand for?)

Just need a simple board that can roughly hit 250MHz-FSB and not make too much noise. I'm not sure I need all the features of the premium anymore but I'm worried that that little fan would make a horrible noise? (can I mod it with a Zalman etc?)

Any input on the three other boards greatly appreciated :)

[edit] actually I don't even really need SLI capability so that brings the A8N-E into the picture also, thats the cheapest right?

The main difference with the premium is the heatpipe cooler and the SLI switch. The fans on the other 3 models were prone to breaking as well. The SE and normal version has only 4 sata ports. The deluxe and premium have 8

I had both a normal and the premium versions and they should do 250FSB. Mine topped out at about 265

The SE is the lowest spec and the one that id avoid :-)

Hi MeatLoaf,

ah man u can't just say that without backing it up! :) What's up with the A8N-SLI SE then that makes it one to avoid?

I can live without SLI, I can live with 'just' four SATA ports, the fan is something I'm not keen on but I heard that the newer boards had an updated fan, failing that it looks like it can be modded with an after market cooler (although not sure if this would clash with the graphics card?).

Hmm for a simple, no thrills overclocked A64 system the A8N-E is looking more and more appealing lol!

Do the SLI boards have any other advantage apart from taking two graphics cards? like do they have more voltage options etc?

Also if the only thing the Deluxe and Premium offer the Plain-SLI and SLI SE is another 4 sata ports (and passive on the Premium) then the SE looks like the best bang-for-buck from the AN8-SLI series, and from the looks of it strip away the extra PCI-Express and paint the board brown and u have an A8N-E?

I don't see a difference between the A8N-SLI and the A8N-SLI SE

Well the SE does have the newer chipset fan from what ive seen.

But it has less voltage options than the rest of the series and theres no cooling on the chips by the cpu socket by the 4 pin connector. i think the audio chipset is different as well but im not sure.

However i havent used the SE version so maybe someone who actually has/had one can correct me if im wrong :)

I ran my Opty 146 at 295x10 in a plain old A8N-E.

It's a grand board if you don't need SLi.
