Different core temps

Just had a read throught the last few pages of threads and it would seem that having dual cores reading different temps at idle is normal/common. I have just got an E8500 with an AC freezer and the temps are over 10 degrees apart at idle however as soon as you start orthos up they level out, both at about 60. Is the temp difference anything that can be sorted? Is it worth applying a bit of arctic silver and refittting the HSF? Should it be sent back?

If they are even at load then its just one core doing more work than the other nothing to worry about

Its load temps that matter...nothing to worry about.

Thanks for clearing that up. Both core temps have now sorted themselves out and are both now within 1 degree at idle as well as at load, no idea how or why.

Just to clarifty before I start fiddling/overclocking. What kind of temp is considered safe under load. Below 80 I'm guessing is OK?

Thats case temp on the CPU not core temp.. core temps you are fine under prime stress up to around 75c.. the CPU will not start to throtal until around 95/100c core temp
