Hi folks,

Is there a way to make it so that other user accounts in W7 don't have the same desktop icons as the admin account?

If I delete the icons from the other users accounts they are deleted from the admin account and vice versa. Is there a way to get rid of the icons on another user's desktop without deleting them from the main account?

Cheers

Jon.

it's because they're probably stored in C:\Users\Public\Desktop

if you move them to C:\Users\Daz\Desktop where "Daz" is the name of your account then they won't be shown in the other user accounts

Thanks mate but that hasn't sorted it I'm afraid.

The desktop icons weren't stored in C:\Users\Public\Desktop - they seemed o be stored in the appropriate program files.

I've tried creating a shortcut and dropping it just into my accounts desktop at C:\Users\X\Desktop but it recreates the icon in all accounts.

Just one of those minor annoyances that I can't seem to find the answer to!

Thanks anyway.

Right click a common icon, select Properties, then the General tab. Look at the Location property, that will tell you where the icon is actually stored. You should then be able to browse to that location and then move things around.

IAmATeaf - thanks mate. That has helped in combination with the info from DJDaz.

All sorted now and everyone's desktop as it should be.

Thanks to you both.

Cheers

Jon.
