Hey all,

As the title, my main and spare PC has rather different speeds. I have a 300MBit/s connection but as can be seen in the below speedtests, there is something wrong on my main PC. I have switched the cables between the machines, incase it was that but same result. I also switched ports on the router but no luck there either.

So I am guessing it has to do with my motherboard and the port there ?? I have a Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H board (Link) and using Windows 7 64bit. What exactly is it I need to download to get the speed I am paying for ?? Unless of course my MB is knackered, then I'm guessing I am fubared. :( :p

Main PC

Spare PC

If any other information is needed, please let me know. Thank you for reading and any suggestions. :)

Given that speed I'd hazard something in the network somewhere is only running at 100Mbit/s.
I am not sure I understand you, or maybe I was not clear enough in the opening post. Main PC and the spare is connected with a cable each to the router (modem), which is connected to the wall. Nothing else between them so not really a network, is it ?

It just sounds like your main PC has a 10/100 connection and your spare has a 10/100/1000 connection.

On your main computer, bottom right, right click the network icon and click open and network sharing centre, then left click on your connection and advise what it says as speed.

This one ? If so I checked the spare PC and it has the same speed, although the sent and received showing higher numbers on the spare one.

gigabit ethernet network driver maybe not installed on main pc?
N00b question, but how and where do I check this ?? :o

Edit: If clicking on the Details button, both showing the description as being a "Killer e2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)" - if that helps ?

A lot of ISP routers only have one Gigabit Ethernet port, the others are 100 Mb/s maximum. You need to check this.
