Now I'm assuming, when I get it, that my new 5850 will come with a vga-dvi adaptor.. that's what I'm hoping anyway..

I've come across these two little adaptors, and was always curious to what they where.. Seems there's different types of DVI('s)..
Could anyone shed some light on this please?

the one with more pins is DVI-I (dual link) the other one is DVI-A which is rubbish as it only carries analog signals

Well if its a vga signal needed what more do you want than DVI-A?

I believe that the two adaptors are not compatible with the relevant connections on monitor leads/gfx cards.
Currently I only have a VGA input on my monitor.
I didnt know the difference between the two I had so wanted to find out ;)

They're both compatible and they'll both give you a vga signal. The extra pins on the DVI-I version do nothing for a vga-dvi adapter.

DVI-I just means that it (graphics card) potentially has both digital and analogue signals. The other end of the adapter is a 15 pin d-sub for the vga and that's purely analogue, so the digital pins aren't doing anything.

Ok thanks. Just a quick question.. With my new 5850, will I need a new DVI cable and a dvi to vga adaptor (to monitor) or will the card come with a vga to dvi adaptor so I can use my existing vga cable I have now?:confused:
