Different monitor sizes in 2 monitor setup?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of moving to a 2 monitor setup. My current monitor is from my old computer and is still using hdmi cable.

I have 2 GTX 980Ti cards so I want to use the display port connections.

I was wondering if I bought a higher priced main monitor using some of the new technology that seems to be in the monitors these days.. and used a less expensive second monitor, would that be ok? Or would I run in to problems?

No issues at all, I only have one GPU but one good Asus and one ElCheapo at different resolutions just fine. Though I've it's DP, the other DVI.

Is there a way to set which monitor is the main one, or how does that work?

From what you've said I could keep using this one on the hdmi cable and buy a new monitor and plug it in to the DP.. but I'd want the DP one to be the main one.

To be honest I don't know ... I plugged the new one into the DP and it just became monitor 1. Even Linux sees it as the primary without me telling it.
