Monitors are becoming a bit of a minefield of choices now... so I thought I'd make a "Recommend a screen" type thing... But with different purposes in mind.
Currently I'm rocking a triple 1080p set up with 3 24" ASUS TN panelled monitors and I love the screen real-estate but... 60hz 1080p TN panels are far from eye-wateringly awesome.
So I know I want more awesomenesses (wait... red-wiggly-spell-check likes "awesomenesses" ?? Fine! OK) but... what that will look like is not known.
What I do know is:
I like to play games, and want the most from that... so I like the idea of a 2560x1440 screen with G-Sync. And this is where the first quandry comes in.
The Asus swift appears to have about the best TN panel at this resolution, some great specs and people tend to like it, though from what I've read early models suffered with QA problems. The major alternative is the Acer XB270HU which has an IPS screen which is ever so slightly slower, with more vivid colour and IPS backlight bleed - it's also more expensive, depending on the shop to buy it from up to £80 difference (would love if Overclockers had a price-match (where possible)). The ASUS has nicer aesthetics for the monitor itself, with the Acer looking a little cheap with the gloss surround... so for gaming, which is really better? If for instance I wanted 3 the price difference adds up to a lot of money, so does the increased viewing angle thing make much of a difference when sat in front of these (with the two side ones pointed at you as well). The bezel on the Acer looks bigger... is it?
Sell me on one or the other please...
Next - watching movies. A Big 1080p screen which looks as good as possible makes the most sense... bluray is in 1080p resolution - what's good for movie watching? Would it be better to just get a TV with HDMI or is there a better choice in monitors? I'm going to be in a small room for a while (off to uni) so the screen doesn't need to be massive to still seem big - want super high quality rather than big or smart features.
Finally... 4K ... what is good in 4K screens
And related to it... if I want to game on three 1440p screens what sort of graphics horsepower would I need? would two 980Ti cards be enough? Or would the number of pixels need the extra VRAM on the titan X (and is it one or two?).
While I'm off to uni, a couple of things have happened that mean I've got some extra cash for things like this, so would really like to make things more awesome.
Thanks in advance
