Hey there, trying to help a friend build his new pc today, using an Asus A8R-NVP mobo and some old psu he had from his last PC. Problem is, that the PSU has a 20 pin ATX power connector, and the motherboard has a 24 pin EATX power connector :(

Looking through the motherboard manual under the power connector section, it says:

"Make sure to connect the EZ Plug when using two PCI express graphics cards and a 20 pin ATX power supply unit; otherwise the system will be unstable."

It made me wonder why it talks about a 20 pin connector when the mobo itself has a 24 pin one. Does this mean its possible to use the 20 pin connector and also use the 4 pin EZ Plug to make up for the lost pins on the main connector? Might be a totally stupid idea, but hey we wanted to check.

Appreciate any help, thanks.

You can use a 20 pin psu with a 24 pin mobo no problems. You can get an adapter but sometimes its not needed. You shouldnt need the EZ plug unless you run 2 vga cards but i cant hurt to have it connected. Also remeber the 4 pin CPU connector as well
