Different RAM Pairs

Probably been answered lots but I can't find a definitive answer.

Can I use a pair of 1 type of ram (DDR4, 3600mhz, cl16) in one channel and then put a different pair (DDR4, 3600Mhz, CL16) in the other channel on my board?

What will happen?

It should work alright at stock settings, but if they're mismatched it can be harder to achieve their rated speed and instability is more likely. Loosening the timings might be required, especially compared to XMP profile. The same applies to using 4 sticks, it can be harder to achieve the rated speed.

When you say the same applies to using 4 sticks do you mean 4 of all the same?

So if i cant match pair 1 with a second identical pair what should I try and look for? 2 new pairs or can I be selective and get a good match 2nd pair?
