Hi,

Motherboard Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks

You probably need to adjust the settings before you add the new ram, or reset the bios after you add it

Reset all settings in BIOS to stock, then try it. If it doesn't work then, then it has been pure lottery that you have unworkable mismatching ram.

DDR3 wouldn't fit.

They'll work fine. To begin with, boot with one stick or one pair and set the timings and frequency to the slowest out of each pair, and the voltage to the highest required by either set. So if one set were 4-4-4 @ 800mhz and the other is 5-5-5 @ 1066mhz, you set 5-5-5 @ 800mhz. Reboot, if it posts then stability test.

If it doesn't post, you need to increase northbridge voltage a notch and retry. I think the maximus formula is x38, in which case 1.4V is probably the sane maximum for voltage, and I'd expect stability to suffer above 1.3V.

If this doesn't work, it's probably user error. Reset to defaults, taking the battery out if need be, then post a very comprehensive account of everything you've tried and we'll see if we can spot the problem. However if you just come back with "it didn't work, now what?" we'll have to leave you to it and you'll conclude they don't work together.

Sound annoyed? Don't take offence if so, I'm displeased to be awake before 9 on a Sunday
