how come my router is showing connection at 12.5mb but speedtest shows a download speed of 19mb

on BE 24mb service

edit: while im here, here is the stats, does it look right ?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 12489 kbps 1026 kbps
Line Attenuation 21.0 db 8.7 db
Noise Margin 6.1 db 6.3 db

im on the master socket, using a long cat5 cable to my pc.

so your saying the speed the router is giving is the correct speed im connecting at?

You're not going to get any more then in which it seems a little low.

Er, yeah...

lol, ok, silly question. i just didnt get why im getting all these different speeds on speed test type sites.

i heard that when you first join (ive just joined this week) it can take a few weeks for the line to get to maximum speed and settle down. should i just leave it for a while ?

It's because they're rubbish. Try a big file (or better still, a bunch of them) from a site that you know is fast enough not to be the bottleneck (like here).

As for "settling down", it's garbage. You're already getting "maximum speed", and there's no training period or anything else.

are you saying not to worry to much about the speed my router connects at but more on the actual download speed that i get?

and thank you for your help, much appreciated.

edit: jumping between 400-700kb/sec

edit2: just jumped up to 1.6mb/sec
