I have only just come across these AA Injectors for games after spending years playing games with the standard ingame AA options. I found SweetFX and some latest Dishonored screen grabs showing a comparison. Here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18293596&page=11

Now, SweetFX uses a type of AA called SMAA.

But I have also come across other types of AA and injectors to force games into a higher level of sharpness onscreen.

Such as, FXAA, MLAA, MSAA and also QSAA(?)

Can someone shed any light on their differences and which is the best method to get games looking as sharp as possible? I understand this will have a performance hit on how the game plays but what is the hierarchy for these injectors?

Is MSAA considered the best for image quality?

Any advice is much appreciated.

SSAA is the best for image quality, MSAA is a vastly crippled SSAA to improved performance, and is generally inferior to most other options.

Currently I think that FXAA or MLAA are the best options for both IQ and performance, but neither of those nor 8x MSAA beats 4x SSAA.

In order to manually set SSAA, you need to select MSAA and then set the quality vs performance, or transparent AA setting to full.
