Hi, looking to build my new rig, thinking along the lines of gigabyte extreame board i7 920, and 6 gigs of ram.

Will there be much noticable difference in the ram between 1600Mhz, 1866Mhz and 2000Mhz, quite fancy the dominator but is the price dif of the faster ram worth it. Looking to clock the proc to around 4ghz + if possble.

Or could ou sugggest another brand of ram that i might use. Comp isused for games, 3d rendering and some editing.

I'd stick with the stuff around £100. £100 RAM and £200 GPU will be a lot more beneficial than £200 RAM and £100 GPU. As for speeds, I don't know. You probably won't see the difference. You'll get better performance in benchmarks, but they mean nothing really. I'd just go for whatever seems good.

All good stuff.

As for Dominator RAM, I wouldn't bother. Not worth it for the very little increase in performance.

I've heard some very good reviews about the Patriot Viper memory. I am going to be doing a new build myself in a month or two, and at the moment the Patriot is my chosen RAM. In the end you can spend hours trying to decide between a few different options when ultimately you wouldn't be able to notice any major difference if you used them all in a machine, at least that is the idea I shop by!

If it was me I would get the OCZ Gold kit 2000mhz, as far as I was aware timings arent of huge importance on intel systems compared with actual speed (please correct me if im wrong) and for that price it would be nice to know what theyre like, those are what I would get.

the OCZ Gold are what i've gone for, i dont really fully understand timings etc but i just see the magic £100 mark and for top speed RAM i cant see why not to buy them!
