might be interesting to read this

if someone has any X79 please tell me what is your experience
 
My Gigabyte X79-UD3 Handles fairly heavy overclocks whilst staying relatively cool.

I've tested my 3930K upto 4.8Ghz with 1.488V, Mobo's VRM's reached 65C which is pretty good considering its just being cooled by the airflow in the case.

I've overclocked my RAM from 1866 -9-9-9-24-2T to 1866 -7-9-7-24-1T, although that probably says more about the RAM than the mobo.

No fancy features like onboard on/off, reset or overclock buttons or independent PCI-E lane switching, but still a great budget X79 board I think.
 
1.488V on a £500 processor :eek:, I'm scared to go over 1.35V on a 2700K. :o

Are you running it that 24/7?

Nah not 24/7, I was seeing what the chip could do, I tested it under prime for about an hour and ran some benches.

The voltage increase per 100Mhz is too high, I'm running 4.6Ghz now (should update sig) with 1.368/1.380V for 24/7

I didn't get a very good chip unfortunately.

I ran 1.512V through a 2600K for 5 months with no sign of degradation, not going to do that on my 3930K, it seems to be much more sensitive to voltage over 1.4V
 
I'm running an X79-UD3 / 3930K, 4.5ghz @ 1.4 (bios) / 1.344 load (CPU-Z)
Silver Arrow (pull pull) as the cooler and get 69-73C as my core temps

I'm guessing the highest of the 3 motherboard temp readings is the VRM one and that maxes at 65C on a burn test but more like 55 during normal high CPU usage (e.g. gaming or video encoding)

the UD3 suffers vdroop fairly bad and doesn't seem to have much by way of options for limiting vdroop, if I set the vcore any lower (even with increased VTT or IMC voltage) then it drops to 1.32 in use and I get errors in linx testing

the help text in the bios for this board says that lowering the LLC from 100% will help prevent vdroop but I've test everything from 60% (minimum) to 100% (max) and it makes no difference to the readings in CPU-Z

having said that, I'm pretty impressed with 6-core 4.5ghz on a £170 board as all the "OC Enthusiast" boards are like £250+

I haven't tried playing with bclk either which might allow another bump without increasing vcore further but I can't be bothered with faffing around too much as it's 100% stable where it is now.
As mentioned above, UD3 does seem quite happy to play with memory timings too as I'm running 1866 9-9-9-27-1t (from 9-10-9-28-2t)
