Differing panel gaps bad?

Just been going over my celica and the panel gaps on the passenger side and drivers side are about 1-2mm out in places
(i.e the bonnet sits 1mm "left")

The car doesn't pull to one side under braking or driving and the tyre wear is even, its also been to a couple of garages (for a scratch repair in the wing and for undersealing) and neither place has mentioned anything.

Is my chassis bent? :\

EDIT: just to confirm, the gaps are regular down the length of the gap in general (so from the top to the bottom of the bonnet on both sides is alright) its just not quite "central" from left to right.

No, you see the problem here is that you bought a car that was built on "Let's Attempt To Imitate British Leyland" Day, and several Japanese manufacturers like to observe the traditions involved in that event. Other problems caused by having a car built on that day include rust and an appetite for head gaskets.

;)

It's a Jap car and just like mine the panel gaps are all over the shop. Either that or some of them are so large that it's almost comical. It's nowt to worry about so relax. :)

speak for yourself, my jap car has perfect gaps all round thanks very much.

Whats the situation with your car? You keep claiming to have a 300ZX as a Uni student, which deserves some serious kudos, but then you say you are not insured on it and you don't drive it?

What car do you drive?

Sorry for being nosey :o

All three of our jap cars have perfect panel gaps.

Same here, the MR2 and Civic both have perfect panel gaps. I don't think I can remember having a car that had bad gaps yet hadn't been in a smash.

To me it just sounds like the OPs car has been in a bit of a bump at some point, probably not a huge one but maybe one that required some front end parts.

Just been out there with measuring stuff - each wheel sits exactly in the same spot in the arch as its opposite number (both horizontally and vertically).

plus the wheels are also aligned from front to rear (I parked on the line of a parking space)

all good

irrelavent++ foxy, you know perfectly well I dont drive. But what has that got to do with the panel gaps on the jap car I own, which would be relavent to this thread? And I never mentioned any 300zx, i don't like to brag.

I get the impression that his Dad really wanted him to have it, given his love for the 300ZX, but the fact he cannot drive yet etc has stopped him enjoying it - but, in time, he will one day be able to drive it, and is thus keeping it until then for personal reasons :)
