From seeing my housemate playing Halo 3 it was a shallow experience. Games rarely last more than 10 minutes before the next map loads and its a different mode of play again with random people. I asked him if you could just play a CTF map until you got bored but it seems you couldn't

The CoD system on the consoles is way better than the Halo one, but it is a similar thing to be sure.

The difference being on CoD you can actually chose your gametype.

I have been following this thread since the weekend but I may a few posts here and there, but hasd anyone mentioned about IW intention to introduce a payment model to play on/use their service. This must be their first step. If this is correct then there is no way they will reverse this decision.

To be fair, it may work. as someone mentioned above we have yet to test it. I don't think it will work and have certainly cancelled my preorder and whether I purchase eventually will depend on whether it works.

However, if they introduce a payment model then there is no way on earth I will buy no matter how good it turns out to be. And personally I think such a move would push more people away than this, inc console players. Especially when there is some very good competition out there on all platforms.

Isn't this still built on a heavily modified version of the Quake3 engine with updated textures?

It's using the 'IW 4.0' engine. Whilst it does have it's roots in the Q3 engine, it's probably far enough away from it now to be called a completly seperate engine in itself.

Thought I'd check out the 5-star Amazon reviews for PC, just for the giggles.

There's a moron at the top of the list begging people not to cancel pre-orders and spouting his faith in IW thundering to rescue PC gamers within a matter of weeks.

The second one is pure genius:

This game is really good and lets face it no one is gonna buy it on PC anyways cos we all know PCs suck for gaming and no one cares what servers the 12 people who buy this on PC will be using theres not enough PC gamers to have a full server anyway!!! lololol all games should be played on consoles

I'm 12 years old and what is this?

Again and again during our conversation, West and Zampella hammer the point that hardcore PC players lose very little to this change relative to the returns that casual to moderate fans will see.

I'm sorry, but it's been stressed all throughout this topic, and it's completely true, that dedicated servers made the previous games (and all FPS's etc).

Clans can set up private matches to do their training or what have you; all they lose is the ability to customize the game on a deeper level with mods and such

"All they lose...". All?!? They lose a lot of control over their games now. A server or two per clan had the massive benefit that it could handle the clan matchs etc, but now this will rely on having to invite each player to the private matches, and of course will rely on the host having a capable enough internet connection to host a 6v6+ game.

Another thing I've noticed is todays IGN Play/Review completely skirts over the multiplayer stating they are "too intimidated" to play online. Is this how we'll see the rest of the articles talk about MP on MW2?

IW is to Quake the same as Source is to Quake ... they are both VERY heavily modified and developed versions of the same old Quake Engine (which is starting to show it's age imo)

looks like they arent backing down then , and piracy is such a small minority I dont get why they make it out to be such a large issue

He points toward the mounting feedback IW has received from PC fans of Modern Warfare who couldn't find a decent server to play on between all of the cheaters, the insular communities, and huge skill level disparities that the original game's community fractured into. "We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game," he laughs.

What a load of bull****. Finding a server was as easy as refreshing the list, applying not empty or full filters, sorting by ping, and then double clicking on one that had the gamemode or map you want to play.

IW employees talking bull as usual

Because it is so hard to look at a GSPs website and find their community COD4 servers ....
The same way you've done things since the days of Q3 and CS...

So if we lose so little, why don't they tell us how we can setup a public community based around a group of games (forget about modding for a minute).
So that we can have regular people play in these "rooms" (or whatever it is called). OH THATS RIGHT, THERE IS NO WAY TO DO THAT.

They don't even mention the fact that a P2P game CANNOT deliver a ping, latency, and bullet reg experience anywhere near close to that of a non-overloaded dedicated server.

Just because of this interview these two idiots gave I'm not buying COD6 even if it does get dedicated servers now, I'd rather wait for BC2.

Of course they're not going to back down, they've made a decision that benefits the majority of thier market. It is, of course, your right as a consumer to register your displesure by not purchasing thier product. The thing is I expect it'll still sell in bucketloads.

Many of the console commands in CoD4 are the same or very similar to those in Quake 3. But yeah, it's far removed from the old engine.

In fact, there's a thought: what if MW2 doesn't have a console? I don't know about any of you other guys, but I like my configs tailored (not to cheat, just so everything feels good, to remove irrelevant crap, etc).
