Hi,
After treating myself in the post christmas sales i have bought myself a Digital Camcorder (model Panasonic PV GS180).

My main question is when capturing to PC from camcorder is it ONLY possible to capture @ real-time ie.. i have to play tape in camcorder & record on PC.

Secondly if anyone has one, is it better to capture over Firewire instead of usb2? unfortunatly i don`t have firewire on my mobo but will glady purchase a pci card if it will improve quality.

Thirdly any recomendations for which is best software to capture the footage in rawest possible way, Space is not a concern just want the best Quality possible.

Thanks Sk1n..

I think as long as you still get 25Mbps when streaming thru usb then nowt to worry about. Unless your camera does something funny along the way like compress it.

Most softwares, and even windows moviemaker will capture from your tape to hdd without any loss. As a guide (rough) 1hr will munch 12Gb, give or take a bit. (from memory) :)

1: I've only ever seen footage captured in real time.
2: You can capture over USB, though i've been told (by Sirrel) that it's better to capture over FW.
3: What programs do you have? Most mainsteam ones (afaik) don't have that much difference.

What will you be using it for? (I've got the same C/Corder as you, I think in the UK it's called the NV-GS180).
