I have put this in general discussion as I didnt know which area to ask this wierd question??

I have just moved and in the room there is no aerial socket to plug my computer in, there is, however a digibox which connects to the wall via an RJ45 patch cable.

The digibox you select tv (there is an info function which gives info similar to that in hotels) and then use as normal but there is no EPG, facility to record etc that my media center has and I miss it

Is there anyway this can work with my computer? ie anyone know how does it work - is it just a normal signal that comes over the RJ45 and the box is a standard (if enhanced) box and if so is there an adapter I could get to change it back to the normal socket? Or if it is not a normal tv signal then is there a card that I could buy to put in my computer which will do the same and would accept the signal?

Sounds like the previous occupants might have done some custom wiring?

Got pics?

The digibox connects to the tv via rca/scart. I think the box is a yuxing iptv box but I cant find anything about it on the net. All the rooms are the same and all come with this box - its just the box is rubbish and very basic (same as hotels)

does anyone know of a good free IPTV software package that either integrates into windows media center and allows me to receive all the free to air progs or is standalone with a guide and ability to record?

If you have decent signal in your area just stick a decent freestanding aerial into your TV card in pc, should get you all the freeview channels.

the way the buildings are located I have a really poor signal - may be able to get up to the roof but thats unlikely - otherwise my wall/window opens on a courtyard (even thought about freesat but I am on the wrong side of the building!)

If it's an iptv stb then you'll most likely have to register the mac address of what ever decoding device you use, be that your pc's tv card or a new stb with Pvr functions.

I have fibre with multi room tv over it and each box I had to call the provider with the mac address to get the signal to decode.

thanks for that - I now have it working through a web page on the computer with VLC (although not through the new firefox and it uses a really old version of vlc 0.8.6)

Is there any way, once I get permission, for me to stick an aerial up and then use the rj45 network to transmit the basic digital signal from normal freeview tv (or even freesat)?
