Digital Camcorder to PC

Trying to get movies off my camcorder onto the hard drive. By the look of things I need a DV cable and suitable software - is that theasiest way?

Can it be done by USB?

What is the best software - is there anything bundled with Windows XP that is suitable?

You will need the relevant USB or Firewire cable to transfer your video on to the pc.

As far as editors go, windows movie maker comes free bundled with windows but is very basic.

Personally I use pinnacle studio.

If you dont want to make a pig's ear of the capture ,use a Firewire card , it is much better , USb is just really for taking stills from your camera . I use Pinnacle 9 for capture and a bit of editing , I dont ever get any dropped frames .
