Regards,

why would you need your reciept, its your own fault, unless you have accidental damage.

Send to canon, they do free estimates, and if you dont want it done they send it you back free.

What kind of amount would it likely be at a guess?

At a pinch you could always sell it as faulty on ebay. Some idiot will buy it for a silly price (probably so they can do a dodgy insurance claim).

Dont really want todo that. Is there anyone online or on here who knows how to repair cameras? I dont think its a serious problem but I dont want to risk opening it and breaking it completely.

I bought an Ixus 400 off ebay in the hope of repairing it. It had a fault where the lens wouldnt extend ad gave an E18 error (very very common fault for the earlier Ixus range). The first one i took apart had damaged teeth on the gears which would extend the lens so was irrepairable. I emailed a few camera repairers and detailed my fault, was told they werent able to replace small individual parts and id need a new lens unit @ about 100 quid plus fitting + callibration. I assigned this camera to my cupboard and used it for spares for the other 2 faulty cameras that i bought and succesfully fixed. (1 with faulty optical sensor, 1 with cracked LCD)

IMO you've damaged something on the lens unit, if this is the case i doubt you'd get much change from 200 quid.

I had a similar sounding fault on a Kyocera P&S quite a while ago, my local camera store sent it away for a quote and was told it would be £120, at the time the camera could be bought for £140 new.

I took the camera home faulty and have since repaired it myself, as with Poppys, it was a broken tooth on a gear which I managed to salvage off another model Kyocera that I bought from a carboot sale.
